PCOD (Polycystic Ovarian Disease)

PCOD (Polycystic Ovarian Disease) is a medical condition in which the woman ovaries produce immature or partially mature eggs in large numbers and over the time these become cysts in ovaries. PCOD is typically diagnosed during the late teens and early twenties, and is often characterized by infrequent or absent menstrual periods, weight gain, hair growth on the face and chest, and acne. PCOD is a hormone imbalance that affects the ovaries. There are many possible causes of PCOD, including genetic factors, environmental factors, stress, and hormonal imbalance. PCOD can also be a symptom of other health problems. A doctor will diagnose PCOD by conducting a physical exam and checking for symptoms. A diagnosis can also be made based on family history or the symptoms themselves. There are many treatments for PCOD, including lifestyle changes, Ayurveda medication, Panchkarma and surgery. Lifestyle changes include eating a healthy diet, exercising regularly, managing stress, and getting enough sleep. Medication and Panchakarma therapies can be used to help with symptoms such as acne, hirsutism (excessive hair growth), and irregular periods. Surgery may be an option for those who have symptoms that do not respond to other treatments. Women with PCOD should be checked for other health problems such as thyroid problems, diabetes, depression, and anxiety.
